Discover Medellin and ride through the central mountain range of the Andes

 

Ride through the mountains that surround the Aburra Valley. Explore Carmen de Viboral and its artisan tradition in ceramics. Discover Guatape, one of the most colorful towns in Colombia and the Peñol stone. Spend a weekend in Medellin, immerse yourself in its history, its culture, its gastronomy and its people. Enjoy its nightlife, the little Paisa town, the Antioquia museum, commune 13 and take a bicycle tour of the city. Visit Santa Fé de Antioquia, taste Colombian coffee and learn about its typical manufacturing process, we will ride along old muleteer roads and in the afternoon we will walk in its colonial streets in what was formerly the capital of this department until 1826. 

We will cycle an average of 40 km each day with an average of cumulative elevation of 580 meters per day.  There will be about 240 km and about 3500 meters of accumulated elevation in total.

Day 1 – Carmen de Viboral

Meeting point at Alfahar hotel in Carmen de Viboral, bike setting in the afternoon, dinner included with introduction to the activity. Lodging in Carmen de Viboral. One of the town best known for its beautiful ceramic crafts

Day 2 – Rionegro

Breakfast, ride to Llano grande among green mountains and beautiful landscapes. Lunch (included) in Carmen de Viboral central plaza. Visit to the ceramic crafts. Free time in the afternoon.

Day 3 – Guatapé

Beakfast and transfer to Guatape around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Guatape is an Andean resort town, east of Medellin. It’s known for its houses decorated with colorful bas-reliefs. It sits by the vast, man-made Peñol-Guatape Reservoir. Piedra del Peñol, a giant granite rock southwest of town, has hundreds of steps to the top, where there are sweeping views. Settle in hotel and  ride with stunning views. We will have a light lunch (included) during the ride and in the afternoon we will visit the town that is located 5 minutes from the hotel. Day 4 – El Bizcocho

Breakfast, and ride to the east. This is going to be the principal challenge in Guatape. Surrounded with stunning landscapes, green fields and endless off-roads. We will cross Guatape Town and face an undulating dirty road till km 23. In this point we will descend a long and fun segment. We will lunch (included) during the ride and at the end, we will have a short transfer to the hotel. Lodging in Guatape.

Day 5 – Chill day

After a beautiful but hard ride the day before, we will take this day for relax and enjoy alternative activities. In the morning after breakfast we will have a Coffee Tour where we will learn from a Barista different filtering techniques. In the afternoon, after lunch, we will have have some free time to join other activities  like a boat trip, horse ride, kayak, a walk through the town, different thematic tours in the area about coffee, culture, food or history.

 

Day 6 – Santafé de Antioquia

Breakfast and transfer to Santa Fe de Antioquia (2 hours and 45 minutes) crossing Medellín city. A town in northwest Colombia. It’s known for its colonial buildings, cobbled lanes and tamarind candies. The town’s main square is home to the whitewashed Metropolitan Cathedral, with its tall tower. We will arrive for lunch (Included) have a little rest and then have a fun ride in the afternoon. Lodging in Santafé de Antioquia

  • Cumulative elevation: 435 meters

Day 7 – San Jerónimo

Breakfast and ride to Sopetran and San Jerónimo. Two little but scenic populations heading south-east. This area temperature can be around 24 and 36 Celsius degrees. We will cross the cauca River and then face a a progressive climb from km 4 to km 20 with some flat segments in the middle. We will have lunch (included) after the ride and free time to enjoy the interesting places of this region. Lodging in Santa Fé de Antioquia

Day 8 – Medellín 

Breakfast and transfer to Medellín (1 hour and 15 minutes) Short city tour in the morning. Free afternoon in Medellín. One of the most beautiful cities in Colombia. We recommend  the Antioquia Museum, Comuna 13 graffiti tour, Plaza de Botero, Pueblito Paisa, botanic garden and Parque Explora among others. 

Day 9 – End of service

Breakfast and  group transfer to the airport in Rionegro

Payment methods

To book the tour you must pay 100 dollars. You can make the booking payment through Paypal. Then, on the day of arrival in Medellín, 1790 dollars.

If the payment is made by credit card, the client must assume the bank fees for foreign cards, which are generally high and depend on each card and each bank.

Return policy

Once the reservation is made, there is no refund in case of cancellation. This reservation can be used on another available date

Documentation necessary to enter another country. Passport or corresponding national documents.

For rented bicycles, please bring shoes and your clip-on pedal as all our bicycles have  flat pedals.
