Guatavita

Guatavita is a municipality and town of Colombia in the Guavio Province of the department of Cundinamarca. Guatavita is located 75 km northeast of the capital Bogotá. It borders Sesquilé and Machetá in the north, Gachetá and Junín in the east, Guasca and Sopó in the south and in the west are Tocancipá and Gachancipá.

Before the Spanish conquest of the Muisca on the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, the central plateau in the Colombian Andes, the area was inhabited by the Muisca organized in their Muisca Confederation. Guatavita was ruled by a caciquewho was a powerful figure consulted by the zipas of Bacatá and the zaques of Hunza. Guatavita was specialized in goldworking.[1] An important temple honouring Sué, the Sun god in the religion of the Muisca was constructed in Guatavita.

The Pyramid

A nice route of 30 km with an initial climb of 4 km a secondary road. Subsequently a long way with short up and downs by off-road between crops and then a descent that leads to the crossing of a river. We will ride around Montecillo hill and back to town. Optionally we can  make a brief tour in the town and finally transport the group to a recommended restaurant to try a delicious lunch.

Along the edge of Tomine

Difficulty 2/5

A 12 km route, recommended for people who are starting in the world of mtb. Cycle along a route parallel to Tomine lake for 6 km and return back to the starting point. We stop to take some photos and a snack. We will visit farms, crops and see the village of Guatavita from the other side of the lagoon. At the end we can make an optional tour of the village.

A little bit of everything

Difficulty 2-3/5

A short but spicy route of 11 km  with sections of paved secondary roads climbs, single-tracks that will put on test our technique and descent sections to practice the way we react breaking and speed. We will make some stops te enjoy the view of the lake from the east of Tomine and amazing landscapes.

The Offering

Difficulty 3/5

  A 21 km route through roads  along the  mountains of El Dorado Legend. Climb  over 4 km with gentle slopes and and outstanding views enjoying a  single-track which lead us to a small lake where we take a snack in the middle of nature and take some photos. We will go on unpaved roads heading north and return by Guatavita-Sesquile way along the edge of the lagoon.

Begins with 7 km of undulating terrain off road to warm legs. Then an explosive ascent of 4 km that will take us to one of the best paths in the area. A single-track that runs between pines along the top of the mountain, leaving us appreciate an immense valley on our left and at the right the Tomine Lagoon. We will make stops to enjoy the view and eventually descend down a path that starts in the forest and ends at the dam. A route for people with good physical conditions willing to get off the bike in certain sections of the climbs. A total of 31 km.

Guasca – Guatavita

Difficulty 3/5

A route of 42 km that begins with an extensive undulating terrain. Starting from  Guasca and riding parallel to the Aves river to the north. At 25 km begin to climb though potato plantations, farms and green fields. At the top we will enjoy the view of the valley and take a fun descent to the village of Guatavita. We will take a rest before returning to  Guasca parallel to the Tomine lagoon.
